Individuals bought Centenar government securities only worth RON 786.2 million

The sale period of the first issue of government securities launched by the Ministry of Public Finances under the Thesaurus Program Centenar edition ended last week. According to the Ministry of Finances, the value of titles bought by people was RON 786.225 million.

The securities have a value of RON 1 and an annual interest rate of 5 percent, with maturity over finve years and were issued exclusively for general population. The purchase was carried out between June 15 and July 6 and could be bought by resident individuals who were 18 years of age at the time of the subscription. The earnings of the state securities are non-taxable.

The state titles were acquired through the State Treasury’s operational units as well as through the post office network of the Romanian Post Office. The subscription being as follows:

  • through Treasury: RON 644,269,745 (number of investors 14,756);
  • through the Romanian Post: RON 141,955,889 (number of investors: 4,946).

Thus, the total subscription value reached on July 6 was RON 786,225,634.

”Taking into account the increased interest of the population towards this saving method, issuance of government securities to the population will continue in the future, possibly with other maturities, until the annual ceiling set for 2018 is reached at an indicative level of RON 4 billion,” shows the Ministry of Finance in the press release.
