When it comes to online financial services, more than half of Romanian internet users (54 percent) continue to be conservative, as they prefer more direct contact for the purchase of this type of service, according to the third edition of the quantitative study “Digital Evolution: Connected Consumer Monitor” (National Representative sample of 1,123 respondents, Internet users, 18-65 years old), conducted by EXACT Business Solutions in November 2018.

“Insurance and vignettes are the financial services most frequently purchased online in the last 6 months, with 18 percent in the first category and 12 percent in the second category,” says Julien Zidaru, managing partner of EXACT Business Solutions. As expected, for both categories of insurance, men are the main target.

Asked about the type of auto insurance purchased online, RCA type insurance was the answer of 87 percent of the study participants, and the CASCO insurance option of 13 percent of them. Also noteworthy is the fact that in the case of CASCO insurance, it was purchased online more by women (16 percent vs 10 percent for men).

Looking at home purchase insurance purchased over the past 6 months, 73 percent of Romanian internet users have purchased PAD (Natural Disaster Insurance Policy). In this case too, men are the main buyers: 79 percent vs 65 percent, the percentage among women. Optional home insurance is purchased online equally by women and men, 6 out of 10 having made such a purchase in the last six months.

Analyzing this area of online banking services, we find that 8 percent of Internet users have opted to get a card issued online in the last half of the year. Online bank accounts were opened by 7 percent of users, and the same percentage (7 percent) was recorded for online contracts.
