Freelancers who have filled in the Personal Income Tax Return using SOLO have paid taxes and contributions amounting to almost 3 million euro (about 14.8 million lei) cumulatively, for the year 2022.

The deadline for self-employed persons to declare their income through the Personal Income Tax Return and to determine their tax and social security contributions for pension and health insurance for the previous year was May 25th, 2023.

Nearly 3,500 Personal Income Tax Returns Returns have been filed through SOLO this year. Of these, 85% were generated for existing clients, while the remaining Tax Returns were generated through SOLO’s free service, launched in early May. The free service targeted self-employed people active in 2022 who registered income from their independent professions, as well as earnings from other sources.

“As more Romanians choose either to work on their own or to supplement their income through a second job, contributions to the state budget from freelancing will continue to grow significantly over the next few years. At SOLO, we have seen that more and more freelancers choose to work as sole traders due to the greater flexibility and easier access to money”, says Annemarie Fabian, Head of Growth at SOLO.

2,800 of all Personal Income Tax Returns filed by SOLO were under the real system of taxation and 740 under the income norm. About 20% of people also registered revenue from other sources (rents, crypto, dividends, allowances, capital gains).

It is also interesting to note that of the total number of PFAs who filled in the Personal Income Tax Return using SOLO, 1,100 were also employees with a contract in 2022, showing the growing interest of those who wish to supplement their income with additional projects. According to the data analyzed, most completions were in the IT sector, followed by delivery and ride-sharing, marketing, and education.

More than 1,500 sole traders redirected 3.5% of their income tax to more than 250 NGOs through SOLO, donating more than 31,000 euro (about 155,000 lei).
