Finance minister Eugen Teodorovici said the Fiscal Agency (ANAF) still has issues with VAT recovery, as tax evasion is currently as high as EUR 7-8 million in Romania. He added that ANAF chief Ionut Misa, like others before him, had certain collection targets for this year and he should be able to achieve them easily or otherwise get fired from his position.
“He has a chance to prove that he can do what he couldn’t do as a minister – reforming ANAF and improving VAT recovery. He has all my technical and political support to do so. If Misa doesn’t fulfill his goals by the end of the year, he’s out. I can’t play around with this. I can’t check on you all the time. You don’t stab me in the back,” Teodorovici said in an interview with DC News.
