“BrickLofts is built from  scratch, but it’s done without compromise so that it looks like an authentic industrial building. Many pe-ople have asked us if it really is a repurposed old building. In the quest for generous spaces inside their homes, people living in big cities like London, New York, Berlin have turned their eyes towards industrial buildings, known for the vast interiors, giving them a new role and turning them into luxury apartments. Loft was the name given to this type of homes, characterized by generous, open and adaptable spaces.

“We have always wanted to create a bold residential building, as we have admired in our travels to the great cities of the world, and fina-lly we managed to create one that is exquisite and unique, in a beautiful area of Bucharest”, says Sorin Puran, founder of Puran Architecture & Design.

BrickLofts placed a great importance on elements that make a house become a home: comfort, space, freedom of movement, quietness and abundance of light. Ample spaces up to 6 meters high and the curtain walls with windows specific to industrial buildings flood the rooms with light, making the living areas of the Lofts 6 times brighter than regular homes.

“The terrace is like a highlight, when you enter an apartment. I don’t know if there are any other apartments like these, it seems to us a brave type of apartment for Romania “, says Daniel Popescu, founder of the Architecture Factory.

BrickLofts pays attention to all details: metal elements, railings, canopies, the black mesh panels, the switches, the decision to leave the the concrete apparent, in a proof of sincerity to the industrial style and openness to the customer. The entire building is co-vered in over 230,000 pieces of brick brought from Belgium, the only quarry in Europe where this specific color is obtained. They are thin slices of kiln-fired clay that have a lifespan of over 100 years.

“I wanted to create a project that would give me satisfaction and make me proud. I’m passionate about art, therefore I relate a lot to the artistic side, to the aesthetics, to the artistic value of what I build”, says Mihai Astratinei.

Exquisite interior design to honour the outstanding space of Lofts

BrickLofts won the 2022 Architecture of the Year for its overall design and interior design details. A 6-meter-tall library, specific elements of the industrial revolution era combined with a contemporary and creative approach to what comfort means won the heart of the jury.

“The fireplace is the definition of home, of roots and comfort. The exquisite library connects the two floors of the Loft, it’s an element of unity, and stands for an invitation to rejoice life, to bring memories out of drawers and into the light. These Lofts are a manifesto to enjoying home”, adds Daniel Popescu.
