Murfatlar Vinul continues to demonstrate excellence in winemaking, earning three gold medals and one silver at the “Vinarium International Wine Contest 2024,” the most prestigious international wine competition in Eastern Europe. This recognition comes shortly after the medals won at the “Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2024,” highlighting the exceptional quality of Murfatlar wines.

Held in Ploiești, Romania, the 21st edition of the VINARIUM 2024 contest featured an international jury including members of the Romanian Wine Tasters Association, with nearly half of the entries coming from abroad. Murfatlar Vinul was awarded three gold medals for Lacrima lui Ovidiu white and red, as well as for the Syrah variety, and one silver medal for Lacrima lui Ovidiu rosé.

“These distinctions validate our constant efforts to produce wines of the highest quality. It is an honor to represent Romania on the stage of an internationally renowned competition and to be rewarded with these prestigious medals. We are motivated to continually raise our standards of excellence and deeply grateful to our dedicated teams who contributed to showcasing our finest wines,” said Cosmin Popescu, Managing Partner of Murfatlar Vinul Romania SA.

The Vinarium competition provided Murfatlar Vinul with an opportunity to strengthen its position in the Romanian wine market. Lacrima lui Ovidiu, the only liqueur wine in Romania, is an exceptional variety, aged for a minimum of five years in oak barrels. The red and rosé wines are produced from the Murfatlar vineyard, vinified from Pinot Noir, Fetească Neagră, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot varieties, the former having a velvety and robust taste of currants and blueberries, and the latter being savory, sweet, with high acidity, balanced, enriched with notes of oak and vanilla. Lacrima lui Ovidiu white is made from Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Muscat Ottonel varieties and has a light, sweet taste enriched with a spectrum of woody, caramelized aromas of cedar and oak, as well as a delicate honey flavor.

The Syrah variety, the third gold medal-winning wine, is expected to be a true revelation, maintaining and strengthening Murfatlar Vinul tradition of producing exceptional wines. It deserves a place of honor in the collections of mature wine enthusiasts due to its superior quality and potential for development over time.

The awards at Vinarium 2024 come shortly after the success at the “Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2024,” where Murfatlar Vinul won five medals: gold for 3 Hectare Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé 2023 and 3 Hectare Chardonnay 2022, and silver for Sauvignon Blanc 2023, Aerosoli Feteasca Neagra & Pinot Noir Rosé 2023 and Statornic Sauvignon Blanc 2022.

Murfatlar Vinul is one of the largest and most respected wine producers in the country, with a long tradition in viticulture and wine production. Its portfolio includes red, white, and rosé wines, sweet, semi-sweet, semi-dry, dry, and dessert wines, covering all consumer segments and being recognized by industry authorities through numerous awards.
