The Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) is set to make a significant presence at the London Book Fair, celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Romanian Revolution by highlighting the country’s literary freedom and creative expression. Running from March 12 to 14, 2024, under the theme “Voices of Freedom,” the fair will feature Romania’s rich literary heritage and contemporary talent.

ICR will host a diverse array of events and exhibitions, showcasing over 350 Romanian literary works, including fiction, contemporary art albums, and translations of Romanian literature into English. Supported by ICR’s funding programs, these efforts aim to foster cultural exchange and promote Romanian literature on the global stage.

The fair will also serve as a platform for Romanian writers, translators, and publishers to engage with their international counterparts, facilitating networking and collaboration opportunities. From book launches to spoken word performances, the program promises an immersive experience for attendees.

Notable participants include acclaimed writers such as Mădălina Căuneac, Liliana Corobca, Matei Vișniec, and Elena Vlădăreanu, alongside respected figures from the literary community. With a focus on women’s voices in literature, the fair will feature discussions led by prominent scholars and writers, exploring themes of feminism and identity.

ICR’s presence at the London Book Fair underscores Romania’s growing influence in the global literary landscape. Supported by partnerships with cultural institutions and government bodies, this initiative reaffirms Romania’s commitment to promoting cultural exchange and artistic innovation on the international stage.

As one of the largest events in the literary calendar, the London Book Fair provides a vital platform for showcasing Romania’s literary heritage and fostering cross-cultural dialogue. Through its participation, ICR aims to amplify the voices of Romanian writers and celebrate the enduring power of literature to inspire, provoke, and unite audiences worldwide.
