The Atterbury Europe South African investment fund remains committed to its desire to consolidate its presence in Romania and announced that it is increasing the number of shares owned by the Government Employees Pension Fund of South Africa, the largest pension fund in South Africa.

Atterbury Europe entered the local real estate market in 2017 by means of a joint venture with IULIUS Group. The local portfolio of the investment fund currently includes 50% of the Iulius Town Timișoara project, a €442 million investment opened in 2019, the largest capital infusion in real estate, as well as of the Iulius Mall nationwide network operating in Iași, Cluj-Napoca and Suceava.

Atterbury Europe is strengthening its shareholding structure by increasing the number of shares held by the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) of South Africa in Atterbury Europe, managed by the Public Investment Corporation SOC Limited (PIC).

Thus, Pareto Limited and BVI (Business Venture Investments No. 1360 Proprietary Limited – wholly owned by GEPF in South Africa and managed by PIC) will hold 50% of Atterbury Europe’s shares, by taking over the shares previously owned by RMH Property Holdings (Pty) Ltd (“RMH Property”), as part of a comprehensive restructuring of the RMB Holdings Limited (owner of RMH Property) started in 2019.

GEPF is the largest pension fund in South Africa. GEPF has more than 1.2 million active members, 450,000-plus pensioners and beneficiaries, and assets worth more than R 1.61 trillion (approx. €95 billion).

“We are impressed by the way our projects in Romania are embraced by locals and their investment attractiveness, so we are certain we will consolidate new projects that highlight the market potential. We have our shareholders’ support in our endeavor to attract new capital projects in the local market,” said Henk Deist, Chief Executive Officer of Atterbury Europe.

Atterbury Europe is a European real estate investment company, founded in 2014, with a property portfolio exceeding one billion Euros in Romania, Serbia, and Cyprus. The company continues its expansion through new projects under development in all countries of operation.

Atterbury Europe was founded by Atterbury Property Holdings (Pty) Ltd, which was established in 1994, in Pretoria, South Africa. Over the last 27 years, Atterbury has become a top name in real estate investments and developments in South Africa, on the entire African continent and beyond its boundaries.
