US president Donald Trump has reportedly told several top White House officials he wants the United States to withdraw from the World Trade Organization (WTO), according to CNBC, which quotes Axios.

The withdrawal would need the approval of Congress, according to Axios.

“He’s [threatened to withdraw] 100 times. It would totally [screw] us as a country,” one source told the media outlet. The same source said Trump has told his advisors, “We always get f—ed by them [the WTO]. I don’t know why we’re in it. The WTO is designed by the rest of the world to screw the United States.”

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said on Friday a report by the Axios news website, that cited sources as saying President Donald Trump wanted the United States to withdraw from the World Trade Organization, was wrong.

“There’s no breaking news here … it’s not right,” Mnuchin told Fox Business Network, calling the report “fake news.”
