George Friedman, the head of Geopolitical Futures, said at Sibiu that Romania should focus on strengthening its own military response capacities at the Black Sea because American forces are not currently in the position to move a significant fleet in this area.
The analyst said that the Russians are not ready to get into a naval operation that would bring the US in the area, and “they will make everything possible not to challenge the Americans.” He added that the Russians want to avoid at all costs a conflict with Turkey in the Black Sea area.
“The Turkish know very well one thing in this area: if Russians stay at home, Americans also stay at home,” said Friedman.
According to the head of Geopolitical Futures, Romania has room to develop its own fleet, alongside the naval and air response capacities.
“The US will help, even financially, in this effort,” said Friedman. He added that Romania has to boost its own army.
“There will be summits in Brussels, but in order to be part of a military alliance and to rely on it, first you need to have an army to match this. If you want to rely on political alliances, then you should think of sending politicians on the war’s frontline,” said Friedman.
