1,200 portions of food were cooked and distributed by Edenred employee volunteers to people in need. The initiative was organized as part of Ideal Day, a day dedicated to solidarity actions in the local communities where Edenred operates. This year’s edition was carried out in partnership with the Federation of Food Banks in Romania FBAR, with support from Social Food, a program by the association founded by chef Adrian Hădean, and the Bucharest City Hall, through the General Directorate of Social Assistance of Bucharest Municipality (DGASMB), which provided the OMINIS social canteen for the volunteers.

The eighth edition of Ideal Day brought us together for a mission defined by empathy and support. By cooking for those less fortunate than us, we had the opportunity to provide not only food but also a sense of belonging and care within the community. This initiative embodies our commitment to bringing about tangible positive change in the lives of those who need it most, reinforcing the fundamental values of solidarity and civic spirit that underpin Edenred’s corporate social responsibility efforts. I am proud of my colleagues’ involvement not only on this day but also in other volunteer activities we organize throughout the year at the local level, such as blood donations, tree planting, or food collection drives”, said Görkem Oran, General Manager, Edenred România.

“Soon it will be 10 years since we started working in this direction: hot meals for people in need, cooking courses for those who have no other chance to earn a living, and awareness campaigns about food waste. We chose to become more visible because that way we can help more people. From 1,000 hot meals a day to 10,000, to 100,000. For this, many hands and hearts need to come together, and we are succeeding. Now through the partnership with Edenred, tomorrow through Kitchen Battle, the largest charitable event in Romania, and the day after tomorrow through you, those who want to spread the idea that it is easy to help,” declared chef Adrian Hădean.

Over 120 Edenred employees from Bucharest, Sfântu Gheorghe, and Timișoara participated in the volunteering action. At the OMINIS social canteen, Edenred volunteers cooked with ingredients provided by Social Food, Macromex, and the Bucharest Food Bank. Social Food representatives coordinated the project, including chef training and logistical details to ensure the meals could be prepared and delivered – 150 portions for lunch, served at the canteen, and 850 portions for dinner, which were delivered. The beneficiaries included homeless individuals, marginalized persons, children lacking family care, elderly residents of nursing homes, and other people in need from nine care centers in Bucharest.

At the Food Bank, we fight daily to reduce poverty and hunger by minimizing food waste and giving food a new value. We aim to eliminate food waste while so many people cannot afford a hot meal. That’s why we are delighted when we bring together companies, associations, and people eager to change this reality because this is how we create communities where Good is done Better,” stated Gabriel Sescu, President of the Federation of Food Banks in Romania FBAR.

At the same time, Edenred volunteer employees from the Sfântu Gheorghe branch, along with representatives from the Brașov Regional Food Bank, cooked 200 portions of food at the Association Serviciul de Ajutor Maltez for children from families in need attending a camp there. Employees from Timișoara, together with the Timișoara Regional Food Bank, participated in a sustainable cooking workshop with children from the summer camp in Kuncz.

Ideal Day, a day of good deeds

Since 2016, in the month of June, Edenred celebrates Ideal Day, a day dedicated to acts of solidarity in the local communities where the company is present. On this day, over 12,000 Edenred employees from 45 countries engage in volunteering activities that focus on the Group’s three pillars of social responsibility: Ideal People, aiming to improve quality of life; Ideal Planet, dedicated to environmental conservation; and Ideal Progress, designed for business initiatives with social components.
