Philips Romania, together with Viitor Plus association, announces the start of the campaign “We plant together”.

For each order over 250 lei, placed on the www.philips.ro, between April 5th and September 30th 2022, Viitor Plus Association will plant a tree in the commune of Apele Vii, in Dolj County, on a degraded land, which is in the process of desertification.

“For Philips, sustainability is at the heart of our business model. When we embarked on this path of transformation, our goal was to ensure that we can apply the innovative power we hold to make a difference for the better, for people. As a leader in the health technology, our goal is to improve the health and well-being of two billion people a year by 2025. We aim to grow the company responsibly and sustainably and, therefore, we are constantly setting ambitious social and environmental goals.” – said Daciana Tulpan, Leader of the Division dedicated to Personal Care, Philips. “We plant together” is an initiative through which we want to increase the afforestation of the southern area of the country, with the support of our consumers and partners. Acting responsibly towards the planet and society is part of our DNA and I’m sure it’s the best way to add value in the long run.”

The trees will be planted in the commune of Apele Vii, in Dolj County, on a land currently in a state of degradation, which is in the process of desertification. The land is owned by the city hall, and the forest will be created in the benefit of the community to support the regulation of the local climate, the reduction of pollution and the increase of resilience in the face of extreme weather events.  According to specialists in pedology, annually, more than 1000 hectares of fertile land in the south of the country turn into sand due to the negative anthropogenic impact on the environment and climate.  Land afforestation is a natural and long-lasting measure to combat desertification and erosion as trees have the ability to reverse soil degradation, and thus, turn sandy and non-fertile soil into healthy and biodiverse  soil. Planting will take place in the autumn of this year, in the period of vegetative rest. In the years following the  planting, care works  will be carried out for a period of  3-7 years,  until the forest reaches the massive stage.

“We are happy to partner with Philips in this initiative and build together programs through which we  help the communities of Romania.  The counties with the largest forest deficit are located in the south and east of the country, and the degree of afforestation in these counties is 4% for Călărași and 5% for Teleorman, Constanta and Braila.  The recommended European percentage is over 30% and we believe that only together, with the help of the community and the involvement of companies, we can reach this target, so necessary for a healthier environment”, said Teia Ciulacu, founder and president of Viitor Plus.
