Spanish fashion retailer Inditex reported sales of over EUR 175 million and a profit of close to EUR 25 million last year in Romania, according to Mediafax. Expressed in the national currency, sales stood at RON 776.5 (up 16 percent y-o-y) and the profit amounted to RON 109 million (up 12 percent y-o-y).

The annual growth rates have decreased considerably compared to the situation a year ago when sales were up by 30 percent (compared to 2012) and the profit grew by 20 percent.

Inditex runs 98 stores in Romania under the Zara, Zara Home, Bershka, Pull&Bear, Stradivarius, Oysho and Massimo Dutti retail brands. The 21 Zara stores were responsible for almost half of the retailer’s sales and profit in Romania in 2013. The stores reported a EUR 85.4 million turnover and generated a EUR 12.3 million profit.

The rest was generated by Bershka, Pull&Bear, Massimo Dutti, Stradivarius, Oysho and Zara Home. All of the seven retail brands posted increased sales and reported profit in 2013. The 19 Bershka stores reported the highest profit increase (close to 64 percent) while Oysho had the highest sales increase (27.4 percent). At the other end of the spectrum, Stradivarius saw the profit drop by 34 percent despite the fact that sales were up by 6.9 percent.

Inditex is present in 90 countries with over 6,300 stores. In 2013 the company reported a EUR 16.7 billion net revenue and EUR 2.4 billion net income.
