Bacalaureat, the latest film of Romanian director Cristian Mungiu, will have its first screening in Bucharest today, on May 19, at the same time with its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where the movie was selected for the official competition.
The Romanian premiere will take place at Sala Palatului in Bucharest, starting 19:00. There will be also a live transmission with the movie’s team from Cannes.
Bacalaureat is the first movie Cristian Mungiu directed after Dupa Dealuri (2012). The film talks about the responsibilities of parenthood. Cristian Mungiu is one of the best-known Romanian directors who won the Palm D’or award for his film 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (4 luni, 3 saptamani si doua zile) in 2007, opening way for the new wave of Romanian directors to international recognition. The movie is starring Romanian actors Adrian Titieni and Maria Drăguș.
Romanian directors Cristian Mungiu and Cristi Puiu both compete for the Palm d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Cristi Puiu’s movie Sierranevada was screened in the festival’s first day, on Thursday, May 12, and the international reviews were quite good.
Tickets for the screening costs from RON 10-25.
