The media account of telecom operator Vodafone Romania will be moving from McCann Erickson Romania to Group M, more precisely the MEC agency, according to an article in paginademedia.ro. McCann Erickson Romania will keep Vodafone’s creation account. This change will be effective starting next year and comes one year and a half after Vodafone changed agency at global level.

Thus, the Vodafone media account moved to MEC in April 2014. “WPP Group’s MEC will take on the business, with annual media spending estimated at more than USD 900 million, according to sources. The agency’s London office will lead all efforts,” according to the piece in Adweek.com at that time.

The Vodafone media account was in the McCann’s portfolio for nearly 20 years, ever since Vodafone was on the Romanian market under the name of Connex.  In 2009, the Vodafone global account was attributed to OMD, part of Omnicom group. However, in July 2011, the operator decided to interrupt the contract and organize a new pitch, and the account went back to McCann Erickson Romania, according to paginademedia.ro.
