UPC Romania adds two new Discovery channels in its portfolio

Telecom operator UPC Romania has introduced two new channels from Discovery Networks into its offer, this being likely a move to gain a competitive edge against rival RCS&RDS, which has recently slashed the Discovery offering from its portfolio.

Starting with December 1, Discovery Investigation (ID) and Animal Planet HD have been introduced in the UPC portfolio, which is now complete with the entire Discovery offer on the Romanian market, which also includes Discovery Channel, Discovery Science, Discovery World, Discovery HD Showcase, TLC and Animal Planet.

Even more, UPC announced that between December 1, 2012 and January 7, 2013, UPC offers free content to all the 20 documentary channels in its portfolio.

UPC’s full documentary portfolio includes Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, National Geographic, Travel Mix, Discovery ID, Discovery Science, Discovery World, National Geographic Wild, History Channel, DaVinci Learning, Zone Reality, Viasat History, Viasat Explorer, Viasat Nature, Travel Channel, Discovery Showcase HD, National Geographic HD, National Geographic Wild HD, History Channel HD și Animal Planet HD.

The company offers 5 documentary channels in HD format.

UPC reached a total of 404,200 digital subscriptions and 446,400 analog cable subscriptions in the third quarter of the year, ended September 30, 2012.

In DTH television, UPC gained 9,100 new clients on the previous quarter, reaching 296,100 clients.
