The unemployment rate was 5.46 percent at end-January, 0.17 percent up against December, reads a release of the National Employment Agency (ANOFM) quoted by Agerpres.
The number of unemployed reached 493,415, up 15,077 persons since end-December.
The unemployment in January was, however, down 0.39 percent year-on-year.
Most unemployed people – 97,102 – have been unskilled agricultural workers.
By gender, the unemployment rate went up from 5.78 percent to 6 percent among men, and from 4.73 percent to 4.84 percent among women, ANOFM data showed.
By age groups, according to the latest data, there are 71,678 unemployed under 25 years old, 41,209 aged between 25 and 29, 107,762 between 30 and 39, 137,211 between 40 and 49, 63,608 between 50 and 55, and 71,947 older than 55.
The counties with the highest unemployment rates are: Vaslui (11.70 percent), Teleorman (11.20 percent), Mehedinti (10.14 percent), Buzau (9.53 percent), Dolj (9.45 percent), Galati (9.35 percent), Alba (8.42 percent), Olt (8.37 percent), Ialomita (8.25 percent), Calarasi (7.93 percent) and Gorj (7.65 percent), Mediafax reports.
Of the total number of registered unemployed, 140,263 received financial assistance while 353,152 did not.
