Romania’s unemployment rate stood at 6.8 percent in 2014, down compared to the previous year, and the employment rate of the working-age population (aged 15 to 64) reached 61 percent, according to the data released on Friday by the National Statistics Institute (INS).
In 2014, Romania’s active population stood at 9,243,000 people, of whom 8,614,000 were employed and 629,000 were unemployed.
According to the INS, the unemployment rate recorded last year decreased from 7.1 percent in 2013, to 6.8 percent, with the most affected by unemployment being high-school graduates (with a rate of 7.2 percent) and secondary-school ones (6.7 percent). At the same time, the unemployment rate of the people with higher education stood at 5.8 percent.
By gender, men’s unemployment rate stood last year at 7.3 percent and women’s at 6.1 percent. The unemployment rate had the highest level (24 percent) amongst young people (aged 15 to 24).
