Castle Craig Hospital, a British rehab clinic, has launched a new, Romanian-language website featuring information about addiction to drugs, alcohol, gambling and legal highs. The site targets psychologists, medics, HR managers, health insurance companies, the media and, Romanian addicts and their families. Representatives of the clinic say Romania is unique among EU countries for having a ‘cronic’ lack of information on addicition and services available.

“Many people don’t know that addiction is a disease” says Rupert Wolfe Murray, Castle Craig’s representative in Central and Eastern Europe. “There are many advantages to describing addiction as a disease: The addict and his family can stop blaming themselves for something they can’t control (just as someone with cancer can’t control their disease).  And because it is a disease, health insurance companies can pay for its treatment.”

The site features a page dedicated to businesses dealing with addiction issues, and how HR managers can deal with addiction in the workplace.

Romania is the second European country in which Castle Craig has set up a representative office. “There is a chronic shortage of information and services in this country. Even AA, which was set up in 1935, has only recently been established in Romania. Our new Romanian website will address this gap by offering important information on addiction,” Wolfe Murray said.

With 27 full time therapists and over 110 beds, Castle Craig Hospital is the biggest centre for the treatment of addiction in the UK.
