Two out of three Romanians are in debt and in half the cases the sum owed is larger than RON 5,000, according to a study conducted by Kruk Romania.
“Two thirds of debtors borrowed money from banks and 20 percent from family”, said Vintila Mihailescu, study coordinator.
Over 40 percent of Romanians think that money is important to assure a decent living and 21 percent believe that it’s worth having as much money as possible and the people that don’t admit that are hypocrites. More than a third of respondents said they would like to have more money then they do at the moment.
“When it comes to debts, Romanians are more emotional about it than the Polish, who are more pragmatic about it”, according to Iwona Slomska, member of the Kruk Board in Poland, responsible for communication and marketing.
Over half of respondents mentioned that their parents could afford more than they can at a young age and had less debts.
The poll ran online between May 1 and 12 on a sample of 5,000 people.
