Transalpina, Romania’s highest road, will be opened, at the earliest, around June 1, according to a press release from the National Road Authority, according to zf.ro.
Certain segments of the road’s lengths are still covered with snow as high as two meters, especially in the Gorj county. In Alba county,, the sides of the road are still covered with snow, and drivers are advised to drive cautiously, since the road is not “officially” opened yet. In the case of an emergency, authorities could experience difficulty reaching places at higher altitudes.
Furthermore, there is still a risk of avalanches in this period.
Authorities could be forced to postpone opening Transalpina until the middle of June, depending on weather conditions.
