Tourist arrivals in the first four months of 2014 totaled 1.98 million, up 4.9 percent on year, while overnight staying rose to 3.9 million, up 8.8 percent.
Romanians represented 77.5 percent of overnight staying with 22.5 percent reserved for foreigners. The levels were similar to the ones reached last year between January and April 2013. 79.3 percent of foreign tourists that checked in a hotel were European, and 85 percent of these came from EU member states.
Average length of stay in accommodation units was 2 days, both for Romanian and foreign tourists.
Arrivals at Romanian tourism accommodation establishments rose 3.7 percent in April from the year-earlier month, while overnight staying increased 10.9 percent on the year, data from the statistics institute INS showed Monday.
