There were 6.4 million TV subscribers in Romania last year

There has been a 5.7 percent surge in the number of subscribers who paid for their TV programs at the end of last year, their number reaching the 6.4 million mark. The number of users who get their TV programs via cable and IPTV has risen constantly, according to a report from the national telecom watchdog ANCOM.

At the end of last year, over 85 percent of Romanian households had TV programs, according to ANCOM.

From the total 6.4 million subscriber base on the Romanian market, 4.1 million opted for services via cable networks, representing 8.7 percent rise compared to the previous year, while 2.2 million had chosen DTH services, representing a slight 0.2 percent decline compared to 2012, and finally, 56,000 subscribers received these programs via IPTV, marking 49 percent growth compared to 2012.

The household penetration rate also increased by 4 percent up to 85.1 percent, while the penetration rate of TV services via cable had reached 55.1 percent.

At the end of 2013, 62 percent of users were from the city, and 81 percent of them were cable subscribers.

Thus, in rural areas, 61 percent have subscribed to DTH networks.

Cable subscribers have grown by 8 percent up to 4.1 million, of whom 1.5 million have access to TV in digital format, representing 25 percent growth compared to 2012.

Digital TV services continued to grow their share. From the total 6.4 million subscribers, over 3.7 million had opted for digital services, representing a 7.4 percent growth compared to 2012.

Concerning the communication bundles acquired by the users from the same provider, there were 2.9 million subscribers of telephony, internet and TV services.
