The tender for digital television starts tomorrow

The primary tender rounds for the allocation of the five digital television multiplexes start tomorrow, announced the telecom watchdog ANCOM.

RCS&RDS and the National Radio-communications Company (SNR) are the candidates in the tender.

The tender will take place at the ANCOM headquarters, where each bidder will have a room with telephone and internet access.

In the primary round, each bidder submits an offer indicating the number of desired multiplexes. At the end of each round, all the received offers are centralized and, if the demand exceeds the number of available multiplexes in at least one category, new rounds are organized until the demand will no longer exceed the offer.

The country’s telecom watchdog ANCOM is in charge of allocating five national digital multiplexes in the DVB-T2 standard: four in the UHF (ultra-high frequency) band and one in the VHF (very-high frequency) band. All the multiplexes will be awarded for a ten-year period. The licenses will be valid from June 17, 2015.

All the multiplexes will be granted for 10 years, and the licenses will come into force starting June 2015. The winner must pay the license tax within at most 90 days since the results of the selection procedures.

In the first primary round, the price for each multiplex will be equal to the starting price of EUR 300,000. Over the next rounds, the price will grow by between 5 percent and 20 percent, but only in the case where the demand for multiplexes exceeds the offer.

Romania will be among the last European countries to switch off its terrestrial analog signal and make the transition to digital terrestrial television, which is set to happen on June 17, 2015.
