The Romanian Ministry for Information Society posted on its website a new emergency project for cutting the VAT for the provision of TV services down to 9 percent.

The current VAT level is 24 percent.

This measure is meant to improve the cash flow and help the providers of TV services, while prices paid by the consumers are also expected to drop.

Another part of the project posted on the website refers to the setup of the National Audio-visual Fund for financing cultural-education TV programs.

Both measures should come into force in July 1, according to Hotnews.ro.

For setting up the Audio-visual Fund, the TV service providers must declare and pay towards the National Audio-visual Council 5 percent of the revenues they made from this activity until the 25th date of the following month, according to Hotnews.ro

The same project also regulates the transition to digital terrestrial television.
