More than 52,000 Romanians were temporary work agents last year, their number having doubled compared to two years before, according to a survey of the Romanian Association of Temporary Work Agents (ARAMT).

“The study confirms that more and more employees believe temporary work is a viable economic and career solution for them,” said Sorina Donisa, president of ARAMT (in picture).

Most temporary work agents in Romania (about 46 percent) have medium education while 23 percent have higher education. Another 20 percent are students and only 12 percent are people who do not have medium education- either skilled or unskilled workers.

Temporary work is more widespread in production (47 percent) and services (32 percent). In agriculture and public administration, only 4 percent are temporary employees, in constructions 3 percent and in other fields a cummulated 9 percent.

The number of hours worked by temporary work agents has increased from 742 hours in 2010 to 927 hours in 2012.

Approximately 45 percent of temporary employments last for more than 3 months, 37 percent last between 1 and 3 months and 18 percent are short term, less than one month.

The survey was carried out in October 2013 among members of the ARAMT, via Ipsos Marketing. The members of the association carry out 70 percent of temporary work activities in Romania, with a turnover of more than EUR 178 million in 2012.
