Several events are being held this week to mark the European Day of Languages, celebrated on September 26. The festival is part of “LinguaFEST – 2012”, an event organized by the Representation of the European Commission in Romania, the National Agency for Community Programs in the Field of Education and Professional Training and the department for Inter-ethnic Relations of Romania’s Government.

Today, the University Underground Pass will be the scene of short improvisational theater plays (between 10.30 and 16.00), film projections promoting multilingualism, language proficiency, and improvisational games, held by the British Council.

Moreover, on September 29, several cultural institutes in Bucharest will mark the European Day of Languages with a series of events hosted by the Cervantes Institute at its new headquarters from Cismigiu Park. Also, the Romanian Cultural Institute, Vito Grasso Italian Institute, the British Council, the Polish Institute, Goethe Institute, Cervantes Institute, the French Institute, the Wallonia-Brussels and the Magyar Institute in Bucharest invite visitors to attend a varied cultural program including exhibitions, cultural animations, performances, games, films, karaoke, mini-language-teaching studies and gastronomic surprises starting 18.00.

The Day of European Languages was first celebrated on September 26 2001 and is dedicated to the 23 European official languages and more than 60 native communities who speak regional or minority languages.
