Subway celebrates two years in Romania on Monday and announces that at a rate of 10 new openings per year, it is the fastest developing QSR in the country. Subway entered the local market in 2012, when it opened its first restaurant in Bucharest in Victoriei Square.
It followed its debut with more openings in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Timisoara and Pitesti. In 2014, two new restaurants were opened, one of which in Sibiu as a drive-thru.
“Our expansion on the Bucharest market started in force, reaching today 11 restaurants. This impressive development rate reflects the Capital’s interest for everything the Subway brand can offer”, according to Rumen Radev, Development agent for Subway in Bucharest and Ilfov.
“In the country, Subway covers several key points in most regions. Balanced regional development underlines the interest and potential to cover as many regions of the country as possible. Given Romania’s population, Subway will maintain and consolidate its development strategy for the new future”, according to Andrei Trifan, Development agent for Western Romania.
Subway is the largest franchise in the world with 42,000 restaurants in 107 countries. Since its birth in 1965, the company has an average development rate of 862 new restaurants per year.
