Romanian female tennis player Simona Halep has been seeded 2nd at the last Grand Slam tournament of the year, US Open namely, to start on Monday in Flushing Meadows, New York, American Serena Williams, world’s no. 1 being the main favourite of the competition.

The only one among the best players of the world in women tennis missing from the US Open is Chinese Li Na, world’s no. 3, who is suffering from an injury.

Simona Halep has never advanced past the fourth round at the U.S. Open. Being second seeded, Halep won’t meet Serena Williams until the final, though she could meet up with Maria Sharapova (3rd seeded) in the quarterfinals.

Halep most recently played in New Haven for the Connecticut Open, where she was the defending champion, but she lost her opening match in three sets to Magdalena Rybarikova.
‘She played really well today,’ Halep said afterwards. ‘It was a good match for me, but always when I lose I’m a little bit sad. I have to take the positive things from today and go forward.’
