Simona Halep, 3rd seeded in the WTA ranking, breezed past 17-year old Russian player Natalia Vikhlyantseva (no. 584 WTA) and will play in the quarter finals of the Shenzhen Open.
The match ended 6-2, 6-2 in Simona’s favor after 61 minutes of play. The Romanian tennis player is seen as a favorite in the tournament, with only Petra Kvitova (no. 4 WTA) seen as a contender who is still in the running.
Halep could play against Kvitova in the final, on January 10, should they both qualify.
Halep will receive 60 WTA points for reaching the quarter finals, and a cash reward of USD 8,394 dollars. In the next match, she will face the winner of the match between Aleksandra Krunici (Serbia, no. 84 WTA) and Anna Schmiedlova (Slovakia, no. 73 WTA).
