Romanian female tennis player Simona Halep, who will become the worlds’ No.2 on Monday, is in the running for the title of the WTA Player of the Month and also for that of the WTA Rising Star Of The Month.

“WTA Rising Star Simona Halep only played one tournament in July, but it was a very special one. The inaugural Bucharest Open in her hometown of Bucharest, Romania. Halep completed her dream week by defeating second seed Roberta Vinci in the final. It was Halep’s second title of 2014 and eighth of her career”, writes the WTA site.

Competing for the same title American Serena Williams, world’s No.1, and Danish Caroline Wozniacki. Votes for Simona Halep can be cast on the WTA site until Thursday, the results of the inquiry following to be announced on Friday.

The online poll for the WTA Rising Star of the Month puts Halep face to face with Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina and Japanese Kurumi Nara. Halep can still receive votes on the WTA site until Thursday, with results scheduled to be announced also on Friday.

Simona Halep was the main favourite of the tennis lovers inquiry for the WTA Player of the Month in May, with no less than 95 votes collected, before the title finally went to Maria Sharapova, who defeated Halep in the final of the tournament in Madrid in May.
