After the “Romanian Impressionism and Postimpressionism annual auction” where the “Nud cu spatele” painting signed by Nicolae Tonitza was sold for EUR 140.000, Artmark is preparing another auction with items that were in the possession of the Royal House of Romania.

The auction that will take place on October 4 at the J.W. Marriott Grand Hotel in Bucharest presents 140 lots with objects gathered during the 80 years of Romanian monarchy. A car license belonging to Queen Mary (1875-1938), evaluated at EUR 5.000-6.000 and an ivory fan engraved with CS (Carmen Sylva), the pseudonym that the queen was using, evaluated at EUR 300-600 are two of the pieces expected to attract the interest of buyers.

The most valuable lot of the auction is the Order of Ferdinand I, rank of Girdle, instituted in 1929, and evaluated at EUR 25.000-45.000. Queen Mary, Romanian historian and politician Nicolae Iorga and Romanian prime-minister Iuliu Maniu received this kind of distinction.

Artmark currently leads the local art market with a 77 percent share. The company positions itself as a one-stop-shop for art enthusiasts, encompassing an auction house, gallery and cultural center, and offering a wide range of services from advisory and guarantees to restoration, evaluation, private sales, logistics and related services. Last year Artmark launched the Art Consecrated Index, a monitoring tool of the weekly evolution of the art market for the 100 most representative Romanian artists.

In 2011 Artmark also released the Artmark Live application, which facilitates real-time bidding over the internet, and opened the Art Shop Dependent de Art, specialized in contemporary fine arts and decorative arts. The firm reported a turnover of EUR 12 million last year, and a EUR 530,000 profit for the first half of 2011.
