Romtelecom, part of Greek company OTE, saw its revenues fall by 3.7 percent in the first quarter of 2012, on the same period in 2011, to EUR 160.2 million.
“The decline in revenues is approximately 3 percent year to year, compared to the approximately 8 percent decline registered last year, which reflects changes in the commercial strategy of the company, the decline in amortisation and the general stabilization of the economy,” according to Anastasios Tzoulas, executive financial director in Romtelecom.
However, the company’s EBITDA profit rose by 82 percent to EUR 40.4 million.
The number of landline telephony customers of the company continued to decline by 5.4 percent in the first quarter of the year, to 2.44 million.
On the other hand, the number of Romtelecom’s subscribers of broadband internet went up by 8.9 percent to 1.15 million while DTH services, IPTV and digital cable services also grew by 11.8 percent to 1.19 million.
Nearly half of the company’s clients are now using TV or broadband and fixed voice. This is the result of the strategy to promote packages that can be “customized by clients” and are also a good approach “to counter-balance the decline in the revenues of landline telephony,” according to Tzoulas.
