Romania’s tax payments by card rose 27 percent to RON 134 mln on eight months, says Visa

The amount of taxes paid by card rose by 27 percent to RON 134 million (EUR 30.2 million) in the first eight months of this year against the same period of last year, according to Visa Europe, the payments technology business.

In the same period the card payments of local taxes rose by 22 percent to 374,166 transactions. Last year, the 372,000 payments of local taxes amounting to RON 133 million (EUR 30 million) were done by card.

Visa Europe has concluded the second national competition that aims to promote the payment of taxes by card, awarding this year’s prize to the District 1 City hall.

“The objective of the competition to stimulated local authorities in encouraging tax payers to use cards, was reached, given that the value of payment transactions by card rose in the first semester by 30 percent to RON 98.7 million (EUR 22 million), accounting for almost three thirds of the total value registered last year,” said in a statement Catalin Cretu, regional director for Romania, Croatia and Slovenia at Visa Europe.
