Romania’s primary energy resources up by 4.8 pct in Q1

According to a press release of the National Statistics Institute, primary energy resources increased by 4.8 percent in the first quarter of 2015 compared to the first quarter of 2014, amounting 8.294 million tones of oil equivalent.

Electricity resources increased by 5.1 percent. Domestic production amounting 5.7132 million tones of oil equivalent, increased by 4.9 percent, while the imports increased by 4.5 percent.

In the first quarter of 2015 electricity resources were 17.2079 billion KWh, up by 5.1 percent compared to the first quarter of 2014. The increase of the electric energy resource was due to a growth in production by 4.5 percent.

Production of thermal power plants amounting 7.0219 billion KWh dropped by 12.6 percent.

Production from hydropower amounting 4.9407 billion KWh increased by  35.5 percent and the production of nuclear power stations amounting 2997.1 billion KWh dropped by 1.8 percent.

Production of wind power stations in the first quarter of 2015 amounting 1.7826 billion KWh increased by 408,3 billion KWh, compared to the same period last year. Solar energy produced in photovoltaic installations during this period amounting 264.2 million KWh, increased by 100.7 million KWh, compared to the first quarter of 2014.

Final consumption of electricity in the first quarter of 2015 was 12,527.0 million KWh, decreasing by 3.6 percent compared to the first quarter of 2014 (public lighting increased by 21.7% and household consumption increased by 4.3 percent). Export of electricity was 2.5844 billion KWh, up by 94.7%.
