Romania’s EU funds absorption hits record of EUR 1.1 bln in 2012

Romania reached an absorption rate of 11.47 percent on structural and cohesion funds at the end of 2012, representing EUR 2.2 billion that have been paid from EU funds in the last five years, with more than half granted this year, according to data from the Authority for the Coordination of Structural Instruments, quoted by Agerpres newswire.

In 2012 alone, Romania took out EUR 1.1 billion accounting for an absorption rate of 5.92 percent out of the total absorption achieved since EU accession.

Romania had the highest absorption rate of 24.7 percent – EUR 920 million- in the Regional Operational Program (POR) since 2007. The Operational Program for Developing the Administrative Capacity (PODCA) reached EUR 52.1 million, at an absorption rate of 24.6 percent.

The Technical Assistance Operational Program had an absorption rate of 18.2 percent – EUR 31 million – and the Environmental Sector program achieved 10.3 percent – EUR 464.5 million.

The program for developing the human resources (POSDRU) had an absorption rate of 7.73 period. Funds worth EUR 268.8 million have been taken out in this sector in 5 years.

More than EUR 192 million was taken out in the economic competitiveness program, which had an absorption rate of 6.7 percent. In transport, the absorption rate was 6.46 percent, meaning that EUR 295 million was taken out to build critical infrastructure in Romania.
