This year’s drought has generated losses of up to 60 percent for some crops while others were not affected at all, said agriculture minister Daniel Constantin at the Mediafax Talks about Brewing&Agriculture event this Tuesday.
The minister explained that overall, this summer’s drought has generated losses that amount to 20 percent in most farming sectors.
He added that following the government’s budget rectification, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will receive an additional EUR 100 million. “Through this rectification we try to compensate some of the losses reported,” explained Constantin.
Corn crops were among the hardest hit by the drought. This year’s corn output amounts for 4.7 million tons, down 60 percent y-o-y, according to data previously announced by the ministry of agriculture.
