Romania’s car market post 4th biggest growth in EU car sales in first 8 months

Romania registered the fourth largest increase in new car registrations in the European Union, of 25.8 percent, in the first eight months of 2014, and Dacia saw the highest growth, of 30.2 percent, to 247,942 units, according to data released Wednesday by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).

Car sales increased to 46,003 units between January and August, from 36,582 in the same period last year. Portugal (35.7 percent), Ireland (30.1 percent) and Croatia are the only car markets that saw bigger increases in sales, according to ACEA.

New car registrations went up 6 percent year on year in the European Union, to 8,336,159 units. Most of the great car markets saw growth: 2.6 percent in Germany, 1.6 percent in France, 3.5 percent in Italy, 10.1 percent in UK and 16.4 percent in Spain.

Dacia was one of the best-selling brands, with 247.942 units sold in the first eight months, compared to 190,463 last year. Renault sales increased 16.6 percent overall in the first 8 months of the year, with 817,562 units sold.

Dacia’s growth of 30.2 percent was surpassed only by Jeep (up 44.6 prcent, to 19,762 units) and Mitsubishi (up 32 percent to 55,197 units).
