Romania’s annual inflation rate reaches 5.37 percent in first semester

The annual inflation rate slightly increased to 5.37 percent in June 2013 against 5.32 percent in the same period of last year, in line with the 5.3 percent rate forecasted by the National Bank of Romania.

The consumer price index (CPI) rose by 0.1 percent in June against the previous month. The 12-month (July 2012 – June 2013) CPI rose by 5 percent versus the previous year, while the harmonized CPI added 4.5 percent.

According to the National Statistics Institute (INS), food prices fell by 0.7 percent in June versus the previous month, while non-food commodities and services added 0.3 percent and 0.9 percent, respectively.

The NBR targets an inflation rate of 2.5 percent this year, with a variation band of 1 percent in both sides.
