The Romanian telecom authority ANCOM has launched a laboratory for testing radio, electric and electronic devices on the local market. The lab is located in Prejmer, Brasov county, and will receive for testing phones, home appliances, illuminating devices, medical, scientific and industrial equipment.

This is one of the most important projects of the telecom authority in past years, with investments amounting to EUR 3.28 million, which included the design and construction, the provision and installment of the testing equipment and also the training of the twelve engineers who will make the measurements. The contract for the construction of the lab was attributed via public tender and was attributed to Comtest and Thermo Fix.

“The ANCOM lab is equipped with latest generation technology, (…) measuring the electromagnetic emissions of electric and electronic products that we are using every day and immunity tests to see how they work in certain conditions. Such a lab is absolutely necessary to check if the devices respect the technical regulations, and it was time for ANCOM specialists to make their own measurements,” said Catalin Marinescu, ANCOM president.

With this lab, ANCOM will be able to test directly whether the products on sale or in use respect European regulations as far as the electromagnetic compatibility, health protection and user safety are concerned.

The checkups will be made according to the annual control plans of ANCOM or following complaints from providers of services and communication networks.

The laboratory will not carry out measurements on demand.
