Romanian pupils rank highest in Europe at International Math Olympics

Romanian pupils won two gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal at the International Mathematics Olympics that took place at Mar del Plata in Argentina between July 4 and 16, which places Romania on the first place in Europe and on the 10th pace in the world.

The pupils who struck gold were Omer Cerrahoglu (10th grade, Vasile Lucaciu National College in Baia Mare) and Radu Bumbacea (12th grade, Tudor Vianu, National College of Informatics). Winners of the silver medal are Ioana Tamas, Octav Dragoi and Stefan Ivanovici, all graduates of the Bucharest International High-school of Informatics. The bronze medal was won by Stefan Spataru, 10th grade in the same high-school.

Romanian pupils also won three gold medals at the International Biology Olympics which took place in Singapore between July 8 and July 15.

The pupils who won the bronze were Roxana Gabriela Sandu (12th grade at Iulia Hasdeu National College in Lugoj, Timis county), Victor Serban (11th grade at Gh. Lazar National College in Bucharest and Cristian Alexandru Bolundut (11th grade at Tiberiu Popoviciu High-school of Informatics in Cluj-Napoca).

Laura Alexandra Antonaru (12th grade at the Ovidius Theoretical High-school in Constanta) also won a merit diploma.
