The budget of the Romanian public television (SRTv) was supplemented with a sum of EUR 14.5 million (RON 65 million) following last week’s budget revision.

The bulk of this sum will go to the National Radiocommunication Company (SNR) which will ensure the transmission of the channels in the portfolio of the institution.

The Romanian parliament approved in December 2011 a budget of EUR 33.6 million (more than RON 150 million) for the functioning of the national public television for 2012.

Following the budget revision approved last week by the government, the institution will have a total budget of more than EUR 48 million (RON 215 million).

The public television has at this point cumulated losses of EUR de 145 million, which should be paid in seven and a half years, according to Claudiu Saftoiu, president of the public channel, quoted by Mediafax.

On August 10, the administration board of TVR adopted a report that stipulates that TVR Info and TVR Cultural should cease broadcasting. The cultural content of TVR Cultural will be broadcast by TVR 2, which will be renamed as TVR 2 Cultural, and by TVR 3 channels.

At the moment, the public television has 3,400 employees, part of whom will be made redundant as part of the restructuring process.
