Romanian president Klaus Iohannis will take part in Charlie Hebdo solidarity march in Paris

Romanian president Klaus Iohannis will fly to Paris to participate in the solidarity march that will take place in the French capital, in memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks, writes Mediafax newswire.  

Iohannis said he will participate together with other heads of state or government in the march, which will send a clear signal about Romania’s willingness to fight against any type of terrorism or extremism.

“As I have already announced, I will be taking place in the solidarity march organized on Sunday in Paris, following the attack against the Charlie Hebdo magazine. The invitation was made by French president Francois Hollande,” said the president in the message sent via the Presidential Administration.

“In front of the barbaric attacks that took place in France, Europe and the entire free world shows their unity and solidarity. (…) Out thoughts and hearts went to the French citizens since the start of these attacks. ,” said the message.

“By participating in this march against hate and violence, we condemn not only the attacks against the editorial office of the Charlie Hebdo weekly but also the antisemitism that led yesterday to other crimes in a Jewish store in Paris,” said Johannis.

The list of international officials who will take part in the march includes Donald Tusk, president of the European Council, David Cameron, the prime-minister of Great Britain, Angela Merkel, German chancellor, Mariano Rajoy, prime-minister of Spain, Matteo Renzi, the Italian prime-minister, Petro Porosenko, president of Ukraine, Jean-Claude Juncker, president of the European Commission.

Approximately 700,000 people marched in memory of terrorism victims in Paris and other French cities on Saturday, according to AFP.

Twelve people died and 11 were wounded on Wednesday during an attack carried out by armed individuals at the headquarters of the satirical French magazine Charlie Hebdo.

The attackers were two Muslim brothers, Said Kouachi, 34, and Cherif Kouachi, 32, who had French citizenship. They had two accomplices, Amedy Coulibaly, 32, who was also killed, and his girlfriend, Hayat Boumeddiene, 26, who has so far escaped and police is searching for her. It is believed that she left France one week before the attacks and is currently in Syria.
