The government has approved the strategy of selling a stake in the Romanian Post to a strategic investor. By September 30, at least 20 percent of the Romanian Post should be sold.
Romania committed to do this in front of the International Monetary Fund, and the government committed that the capital increase will take place by the end of September. In the meantime, a consultant should have been elected in June, but this did not take place. The government plans to set up a commission to select the consultant.
The Romanian Post is owned by the Ministry of Communications, which has a 75 percent stake, and Fondul Proprietatea, with 25 percent stake. The territorial network of the operator counts 7,100 post offices.
Last year, the Romanian Post posted a turnover of RON 1.26 billion (EUR 274 million), down 8.7 percent on the previous year. The company posted 50 percent more losses, amounting to RON 182.9 million.
