Romanian paintings and jewelry on Artmark duplex auction generate almost EUR 900,000

Several pieces of art went on auction simultaneously in Mamaia, Romania and Monte Carlo, Monaco, at an auction organized this weekend by Artmark. The auction included 51 paintings and 50 pieces of jewelry with a 98 percent take up rate. Art lovers spent over EUR 700,000 on Romanian art and EUR 185,000 on jewelry.

The most important piece of the auction, the Nicolae Tonitza painting “Two sisters,” was sold for EUR 125,000, from an estimated value for this piece of art between EUR 100,000-150,000. On of the surprises of the evening was the painting “Balcic dusk” by Dumitru Ghiaţă, which was bought by a participant in the Monte Carlo auction. The buyer paid EUR 14,500 for the piece, initially estimated at half the price.

Another seven painting lots were sold for prices between EUR 25,000 and EUR 60,000, as follows: “Summer flowers” by Stefan Luchian and “Interior from Zambaccian Street” by Gheorghe Patrascu sold both for EUR 50,000; “Archer resting” by Ion Jalea (EUR 32,000), “Static nature with pears and book” by Gheorghe Patrascu (EUR 28,000), “Japanese props” by  Theodor Pallady (EUR 30,000), “PosadaValley landscape, with a Shepard with his flock of sheep, in the distance” by Nicolae Grigorescu (EUR 44,000) and “Interior from Place Dauphine interior” by Theodor Pallady, auctioned for EUR 40,000.

For the jewelry part of the auction, the most expensive piece was the Leo Cut diamond ring. It sold for EUR 79,000.  It had an estimated price of EUR 55,000-77,000. Another highlight was the Bucherer emerald Cut diamond ring, which sold for EUR 47,000.

The previous event organized by Artmark focusing on the sale of jewelry pieces raised EUR 118,000. The auction took place simultaneously in Mamaia and Bucharest.
