Romanian newspapers’ circulation goes down in Q1, according to media auditing office

The circulation of Romanian newspapers continued to drop in the first quarter of the year (January to March), which marks a downward trend compared to previous years.

According to BRAT,  Evenimentul Zilei daily, published by Evenimentul publishing house and Capital, is leader in the quality category (with 13,455 copies in January 2014 versus 13,551 copies in January 2013), ( 13,724 copies in February 2014 versus 13,731 copies in February 2013) and 13,483 copies in March 2014 compared to 14,254 copies in March 2013.

It is followed by Jurnalul National , published by Intact Publishing, which sold on average 10,386 copies in January 2014 versus 16,080 copies in January 2013. In February 2014, Jurnalul National sold 11,145 copies compared to 16,587 copies in February 2013. In March, Jurnalul National posted average sales of  9,414 copies compared to 17,536 copies in March 2013.

Adevarul, edited by Adevarul Holding, ranked on the third position posted in January 2014 average sales of 9,058 copies, while in January 2013 it sold 12,531 copies.  In February 2014, Adevarul sold 9,160 copies, compared to January 2013, when it posted average sales of 12,507.  In March, Adevarul sold 9,454 copies compared to 11,812 in March 2013.

In the tabloid category, Click!, edited by Adevarul Holding, is the leader in sales, with 117,059 copies sold in January 2014, compared to  138,465 in January 2013. In February, Click! sold 116,732 copies compared to 141,958 copies in February 2013. In March, Click! sold 120,725 copies compared to 138,585 copies in March 2013.

On the second place in the top of tabloid sales is Libertatea, published by Ringier Romania, which sold on average 76,621 copies in January 2014 versus  88,339 copies in January 2013. In February, Libertatea sold 78,236 copies per issue compared to February 2013 when it sold 89,773 copies. Finally, in March Libertatea sold 77,560 copies compared to 88,454 copies in March 2013.

In the financial publications category, Ziarul Financiar is the leader with average sales of 8,306 copies in January 2014 (rising from 7,763 copies in January 2013), 8,427 sold copies in February 2014 (rising from 8,075 copies in February 2013) and 8,393 copies in March 2014 (rising from 8,064 copies in March 2013).

In the sports category, Gazeta Sporturilor edited by Convergent Media, part of Intact Group, posted average sales of 22,727 copies compared to 23,815 copies in January 2013. In February, Gazeta Sporturilor sold 30,261 copies compared to 31,565 copies in February 2013 . Finally, in March, the sports publication sold 27,027 copies compared to  30,489 copies in March 2013.
