Romanian film producers to quarrel national funds for cinema

The National Film Center ( Centrul Naţional al Cinematografiei ) postponed the deadline for the contest dedicated to the new film projects until February 14, 2014, which makes it difficult for the competitors to obtain more funding from European programs such as Creative Europe-Media or Eurimages. To apply to these European funding programs with deadlines in February or March 2014, the film producers must have some extra financial support, in this case, the money from the National Film Center.

According to the official press release of the National Film Center, the sum allocated for the first session of film projects is RON 30.000.000. The amount of money will be shared as follows: 15% for fictional debut movies, 5% for fictional shortsup, 10% for documentaries, 10% for animation movies, 59% for fictional movies, 1% for the development of film projects.

85 film makers already signed an opened letter addressed to the National Film Center to reconsider the deadline for the contest. According to them, no official reason was presented for postponing the deadline for February 2014. Moreover, none of the Romanian movies set up in 2013 get financial support from the National Film Center.
