Bricks manufacturer Wienerberger Romania estimates that the local construction materials market will report a growth of about 3-5 percent by yearend, according to company representatives.
“This year could represent a turning point for the local construction materials market for the past five years. It could mark the market’s transition to an organic growth phase as a result of the Romanians’ real need for new and modern housing. This need for affordable housing and improving customer confidence to invest will further fuel the development of the construction materials market,” said Corneliu Fecioru, member in Wienerberger’s board, adding that the 3-5 percent growth is in line with the company’s initial estimations.
This year’s increase is even more important when considering that the weather has been mostly unfavorable and there was the usual slowdown in consumption, particularly in the public sector, due to elections taking place, said company representatives. Yet despite these market conditions, the construction of single family homes saw a relatively stable evolution in 2014 and there was an “accelerated growth” on the multi-family dwellings segment.
Austrian Wienerberger is the largest bricks’ manufacturer in the country, according to its data. It operates three production facilities in Romania.
