Romanian conductor Ion Marin will receive on October 14 in Berlin the Echo award for the record sales of his album “Legacy”. According to the Mediafax newswire, the album was produced together with violinist David Garrett and recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Ion Marin’s “Legacy” album was released by the Decca record label, a Universal Music division, and registered sales of over 200,000 copies in Germany. Also, the album won a double golden record in Great Britain for registering over 300,000 sales.
Ion Marin, the son of well-known conductor of the “Madrigal” chorus Marin Constantin, graduated from the Bucharest Conservatory in 1983 and is currently one of the most appreciated young conductors. The first important position Marin held was that of resident conductor at the Vienna Staatsoper from 1986 to 1991, the period in which the institution was led by Claudio Abbado. He also worked with the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Dresden Semperoper, Opernhaus Zurich, Paris Bastille, Teatro alla Scala, La Fenice and the Metropolitan Opera.
The conductor was recently in Romania on the occasion of International Festival of Radio Ensembles “RadiRo”, conducting Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France.
