Romanian Carol Novak wins country’s first gold medal at London Paralympics

Romanian Eduard Carol Novak set a new world record in the pursuit cycling event at the London Paralympic Games on Day 3 of the event, managing to qualify into Saturday’s final, where he won the gold medal. With an average time of 4:40.315, Edi Novak set a new world record.

The cyclist was an Olympic vice champion in Beijing in 2008 in the time trials and a double world champion both on road and in time trials. For the London Paralympic Games, he carried on the Romanian flag at the opening ceremony for the second time.

In the Men’s Individual C4 Pursuit competition, the second place was won by Jiri Jezek of the Czech Republic, while the bronze went to British cyclist Jody Cundy.

Romania’s paralympians team includes Naomi Ciorap, who competed for the 50m freestyle swimming event, Florin Marius Cojoc, competing in the long jump, Dacian Makszin for the table tennis competition, who unfortunately went out in the first round and Imre Torok, competing in the road cycling event team competition with Eduard Carol Novak.
